MISSION STATEMENT OF THE COALITION TO END CHILD RESTRAINTS

Most of the children came from violence and chaos and/or deprivation to a place where they are suppose to be safe and cared for. They are grieving the lose of their homes even if they welcome the rescue, and they are all longing for a smile and a touch. They are afraid and in great pain.

What do we offer these suffering children?

MORE VIOLENCE AND DEPRAVATION

Their needs are treated as a burden, and their expression of pain is met with violence i.e. THE RESTRAINT.

If we want to connect with these children we need to see past their pain, then love and care for them, not hold them face down on the ground in a show of dominance and control.

The restraint is an exemplification of the extensive contempt our society has for these beautiful children of God entrusted to our care.

Police, Children's Aid Society, and the Courts do not treat the restraints of children (even the totally unnecessary or over zealous restraints) as a crime.

It is our belief, that this brutal and unlawful practice of restraint as punishment needs to stop entirely now!!!!!

Therefore, it our aim to demand the authorities begin to enforce the already existing laws and policies which prohibit assault and excessive use of force against all citizens when they are informed that such violations are taking place towards children in-group homes, treatment and correction centres.
